Outsider Folk Art Gallery proudly presents offerings from the "Purvis of Overtown" collection, assembled for the making of the "Purvis of Overtown" documentary film directed by David Raccuglia. This vast grouping spans thirty years of Purvis Young's career. The body of work, collected over six years, consisted of over 1100 works of art dating from the early 1970's to 2004. This was the only total retrospective of the artist, Purvis Young.

Most of the pieces that we will be presenting to you were painted on a broad variety of found fabric. A few are not signed because they were originally part of a larger collage of fabric. Purvis appreciated the texture of any substrate that he worked on. These pieces are unique and quite beautiful. For more information on the life of Purvis please read his biography.
